Governors Overview

The Woodlands Federation consists of the three primary schools, Broad Oak Community Primary, Dallington Church of England Primary and Punnetts Town Community Primary. There is a single governing body over the Federation made up of 14 governors consisting of two parent governors, one staff governor, one local authority governor, three foundation governors, the executive headteacher, six co-opted governors and three associate members who are the heads of each of the schools.

The governing body is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds. School governors work with the executive headteacher and are responsible for setting the strategic direction of the school. If you would like to become a school governor please contact the executive headteacher to find out about any vacancies.

The Full Board meets at least 7 times per year with specific governors taking responsibility for Finance, Health and Safety and Learning standards matters and reporting to the full governing body. Governors also use their identified skills and expertise within working parities, which have a specific focus and report back to the full governing body.

The role of the governors is to determine the aims and values of the school, keeping under review the broad policies, plans and procedures within which the Woodlands Federation operates. The three sub-committees meet to review the activities in their fields of interest.

The governors visit the schools regularly to observe and to aid understanding of the pupils’ needs so that these can be included in the schools plans.
